Our pipelines are regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. To ensure safety, the following processes and inspection methods are used before placing pipelines in service:

  • Selection of proper pipe materials
  • X-ray inspection of all welds
  • Use of durable coating systems and clean backfill to protect the coating
  • Installing cathodic protection to protect pipe from external corrosion
  • Inspection of all construction
  • Hydrostatic pressure testing of pipeline
  • Creating maps of facilities

Operations and Maintenance

After construction, our pipelines are operated and maintained to rigorous standards. These include:

  • Continuous 24/7 monitoring of the pipeline system from our computerized control center
  • Ensuring employees and contractors are adequately trained
  • Inspection and monitoring of cathodic protection systems to prevent external corrosion
  • Security measures, including fenced and locked facilities and 24/7 monitoring of security cameras at all facilities
  • Regular inspection and maintenance of valves, pumps and other equipment
  • Damage prevention program
  • Pipeline integrity management program
  • Public awareness program
